A few days ago, Orange presented its financial results for the year 2024. In France, the company suffered a loss of 31,000 Livebox subscribers over the year. But it recorded a second quarter of growth that seems to confirm a return to health after several months of sharp decline. On the mobile lines side, however, everything is going well: Orange has more than 300,000 new loyal customers compared to the end of 2023.
The hemorrhage has stopped, but still fewer fixed-line subscribers than in 2023
After several first quarters of sharp decline, the operator's fixed-line offer confirms the rebound that began in the third quarter of 2024 (effect of the Livebox offer without TV launched in April?): it attracted 11,000 additional customers in one quarter.
Nevertheless, despite this new trend of austerity since July 2024, over the year, Orange still lost 32,000 subscribers (compared to the fourth quarter of 2023). This contingent is even 127,000 if we compare it to the first quarter of 2023.
In fact, at the end of 2024, in France, 12,277,000 households were Livebox subscribers as of December 31, 2024.
Among these, just under 9.3 million are connected to FTTH (fiber). In this regard, note that 40.3 million households were eligible for this connection. There were 37.4 million at the end of 2023.
Otherwise, the average turnover per fixed customer increased year-on-year: it went from 37.2 euros to 39 euros.
Orange mobile offer in good shape
Regarding mobile offers, the number of customers continues to increase over the quarters. Orange gained 118,000 additional subscriptions between the third and fourth quarters of 2024. Going back to the first quarter of the same year, this increase even amounts to 305,000. Clearly, Orange's downgrading to SFR in nPerf's mobile Internet connection barometer in 2024 has therefore not harmed the company.
In concrete terms, Orange operated 21.15 million mobile plans as of December 31, 2024. To compare with the oldest data in the press release, namely that of the first quarter of 2023, this number was then 20.6 million.
On the other hand, the average revenue per mobile subscriber fell slightly year-on-year: from 17.9 euros, it fell to 17.2 euros.
