We like

Its two-tone design

The Poco X7 Pro remains faithful to the brand's very particular aesthetic. The two-tone is de rigueur, even for the "classic" versions in black and gray or green and light green, and it suits it rather well. We have to admit that our test model, in black and yellow imitation leather, is a success that gives a pleasant touch and character to this smartphone. This coating has the advantage of preventing fingerprints.

The rest of the design is fairly standard, with dimensions in line with the current standard (160.8 x 75.2 x 8.3 mm) and a weight of under 200 g (195 g). The grip is pleasant, especially since Poco opts for flat edges and the camera block is not too thick. It is even quite compact compared to what we can see elsewhere, but its positioning does not allow for a perfectly stable smartphone. However, it is still possible to use the smartphone flat, including the fingerprint reader placed under the screen and the keyboard.

On the side, Poco has paid attention to detail by offering black volume buttons and a yellow power button. We appreciate the effort.

For the rest, the bottom of the device houses the USB-C port, a speaker output and the SIM drawer. The Poco X7 Pro benefits from IP68 certification and its screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. This is reassuring as to the durability of the product, especially since it gives off a nice impression of solidity.

Its performance

Designed for gaming, the Poco X7 Pro offers an interesting configuration. The manufacturer opts for the recent MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra SoC, engraved in 4 nm and equipped with a new eight-core architecture. The particularity of this chip is to offer only "performance" cores and to put aside the "low consumption" cores. This "All Big Core" organization, as MediaTek explains, is based on eight Cortex-A725 cores with a frequency of up to 3.25 GHz.

This approach should help optimize performance, without forgetting to limit consumption and heating. An Immortalis ARM Mali-G720 GPU accompanies the processor and Poco adds 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of storage.

Steel Nomad Light (score / average fps)1388 / 10.29

The Poco X7 Pro holds its promise to be a champion of accessible gaming, offering great performance in multitasking and gaming. Unsurprisingly, the experience is perfectly fluid and the configuration keeps up even with sustained use. The smartphone is there to chain tabs in a browser, consult social networks, do photo editing and open other applications.

In game, the Poco X7 Pro is willing and does not hesitate to launch the most demanding titles of the Play Store. No game scares this smartphone which allows to play in good conditions, but the power Dimensity 8400 struggles to be totally mastered. The chip can tend to heat up when it is heavily used, pushing the device to limit its performance. The advantage is that the Dimensity 8400 starts from very high and finds the right balance to limit this increase in temperature, without framerate drops in games.

Its autonomy and fast charging

Although it integrates a 6000 mAh battery, the Poco X7 Pro is not the battery life monster that we could hope for. Despite a capacity slightly above average, the smartphone does not do much better than its competitors in its price range.

It offers good battery life and does not run out of steam at the end of the day in normal use. Even the most gamers should find what they are looking for, but very intensive use will encourage you to keep an eye on the battery icon. Xiaomi seems to rely more on the capacity of the accumulator rather than on rigorous optimization, which inevitably leaves us a little hungry. Unless the new MediaTek SoC is a little at fault and does not benefit (yet?) from optimizations. In absolute terms, the endurance remains rather good.

And as is often the case with the Chinese manufacturer, a (very) fast charge helps to raise the average. Compatible with 90 W wired charging, the Poco X7 Pro goes from 0 to 100% in less than an hour. A good performance, especially since the device quickly reaches the 50% mark and that can be enough to give a boost to calmly end your day or an intense game.

Its software part, with AI

Very good news, the Poco X7 Pro arrives directly with the latest version of Xiaomi's overlay. The HyperOS 2.0 interface is in control, associated with Android 15, for a pleasant, refined and customizable experience.

This version does not shake up habits, but the appreciable power of the smartphone makes the experience totally fluid. In addition, it is possible to take advantage of some features boosted by artificial intelligence, such as the Gemini assistant. On the other hand, we are a little disappointed not to find the Circle to Search function which is nevertheless very practical.

In the smartphone settings, a section is dedicated to AI and centralizes all available functions. A very practical decision on the part of Xiaomi, which will help users familiarize themselves with these new features and not forget anything to fully enjoy their experience. The image editing functions are worth a look, even if you sometimes have to learn how to use them in moderation to obtain a consistent result.

Its main sensor

Gaming-oriented, the Poco X7 Pro does not necessarily seek to be the best camera phone on the market. It arrives with a dual camera on the back:

  • 50 Mpx main sensor (f/1.5)
  • 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2)

Compared to the previous model, we note that the manufacturer is moving from a 64 Mpx main module to a 50 Mpx… It also loses the macro sensor, but that's not really a bad thing since this module is often of poor quality on smartphones in this range. With its simplified configuration, the Poco X7 Pro is not a photo magician but its main module is capable of delivering pleasant shots.

The smartphone will be especially comfortable when the lighting conditions are good, offering a fairly natural and well-contrasted rendering, as well as rather detailed shots. In detail, however, we note a slightly too aggressive digital processing and a tendency to smooth the shots. Nevertheless, the performance remains more than correct for a model in this price range. Likewise, we can try the zoom experience when the conditions are good and benefit from a very correct x2 zoom. The x4 level shows signs of greater weakness while the x10 zoom is only to be used in excellent conditions. And even with a lot of light, the lack of details is already very significant.

In low light, the Poco X7 Pro has a lot more and digital noise takes over.

Its screen

The Poco X7 Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a definition of 2170 x 1220 pixels. The smartphone skips LTPO technology, but it does offer a dynamic refresh rate of 60 Hz or 120 Hz.

This panel meets everyday expectations and benefits from a nice improvement in brightness (up to 3200 nits) to be pleasant to view even in direct sunlight. The advantages of OLED are there (almost infinite contrast, non-existent afterglow time, etc.). Without being exceptional, the screen perfectly meets expectations and its format makes it suitable for viewing or playing. The color temperature is a little cold and drifts towards blue, which may push some users to go through the Settings box. The options offered by Xiaomi will allow everyone to find what they are looking for according to their preferences.

We like less

Its ultra wide-angle

If the main sensor meets expectations, the same cannot be said of its partner. The ultra wide-angle of the Poco X7 Pro has a hard time convincing, even in broad daylight. Its limited definition of 8 Mpx does not allow you to enjoy detailed photos and a lack of sharpness is visible, even though the colors and dynamics are rather good. However, this is not enough to provide a just average rendering and the ultra wide-angle will only be used when necessary to provide some services.

At night, it is better to avoid trying the experiment and settle for the main sensor.

Its software tracking

Even though it comes directly with Android 15 (and Hyper OS 2.0), the Poco X7 Pro is not the best student when it comes to software support. Xiaomi is limited to three Android updates and four years of security updates, which means software support is guaranteed until 2029. This is a little less good than some competitors and the European regulation that will come into force next June. This will require manufacturers to deploy updates for at least five years.

Its bloatware

The Poco X7 Pro inherits, like many of its peers, bloatware. These unwanted applications can be useful for some people and can be uninstalled, but it remains frustrating to start your adventure by cleaning up your new device. The list is long:

In addition to this frustration, the accumulation of applications weighs down the system and complicates the user experience. When starting up, the Poco X7 Pro will ask you to choose a default browser from a list and your interface will also offer Google Chrome, Opera and the Mi browser. As for app stores, the essential Google Play Store coexists with App Mall while another "store" offers to manage themes. From a relatively welcoming interface, we find ourselves having to endure options that are not necessarily desired.
