PSN has infuriated many over the weekend. Sony's online gaming service was hit by a massive outage that began on the night of Friday to Saturday, remaining inaccessible for nearly 24 hours. All PSN-related services were affected, preventing not only millions of players from playing online.
A lack of communication is a ridiculous compensation
This major PSN outage, in the middle of the weekend, was not the only event to annoy players, who were particularly angry with Sony. The Japanese company has not been particularly responsive in its communication.
After an initial tweet published on the night of Friday to Saturday to indicate that it was aware of a problem on the PSN, Sony subsequently remained a little too silent. No information was communicated to players on the problems encountered. Furthermore, no message was communicated to players regarding the progress of the work aimed at resolving this outage. It was not until PSN came back online, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, that the Japanese company issued a laconic message explaining that the service had encountered an "operational problem" without giving further details.
But the straw that broke the camel's back for many players was undoubtedly the meager compensation offered by Sony for this near-total outage. 24 hours in the middle of a weekend. Also, to apologize for "the inconvenience caused" and to thank "the community for its patience", Sony, in grand style, indicated that "all PlayStation Plus members will automatically benefit from 5 additional days of service".
Not sure, given the responses sent by players to this apology tweet from Sony, that this compensation, which is quite paltry, has given complete satisfaction to PSN subscribers.
