Starfield: The extension arrives ... even if the game has been deserted for months

Released in September 2023, Starfield was supposed to be one of the most significant titles in the history of video games. 7 months later, it is actually one of the biggest flops. Not that Bethesda's latest game is particularly bad, but it fails to retain its players. While the reviews have been glowing, it must be said that the interest curve has not had a very good growth in recent months.

However, Todd Howard has some great revelations to make to all loyal players, and even those who have dropped out. The expansion finds its release window for fall 2024. We learned this in the Kinda Funny Games show in which the game director was interviewed. Called Shattered Space, we don't know much about it except that it will bring a new side to the intergalactic history of gamers.

A kit for modders coming soon

This announcement is not the only one concerning new features. Indeed, Todd Howard also made official the arrival of the Starfield Creation Kit. This is a digital toolbox allowing players to create mods more easily and more securely than currently. In addition to being soon available to most players, it seems that some content creators already have access to the kit to test all its specificities. Here again, Todd Howard does not have a specific date for the release of his product. However, he declares:

This is really very important to us. Our modders have been incredible. And for a lot of them, I think before Creation Club, and now our new Creators Program, one of the most interesting things is that we’re seeing them kind of “go pro,” and go from hobbyist to professional. We’ve hired some of them into the studio, but it’s mostly the ones who feel like they can make a living creating quality content that deserves attention and praise for what they do in our games.

A DLC… but no one cares?

A nice tribute to all the players and modders who have not deserted the game, and there are few of them. On Steam, Starfield has lost nearly 98% of its users in 6 months, and the curve does not seem to want to go up. We can therefore easily imagine that the situation will not be resolved soon. The SteamDB graph speaks for itself in this case. It’s unclear how many players have kept the excitement alive on day one on Xbox and Windows, but the overall trend should be similar.
