Sony ended January on a high note. The State of Play conference, announced at the last minute by the company, revealed trailers and information on many games to come during the year. If you missed the event, which was scheduled for late at night, don't panic. Here are the 5 most important announcements from this State of Play.
Dave the Diver
This is probably our favorite announcement of the entire conference. The very famous Dave the Diver is finally arriving on PS4 and PS5 consoles, a little late, but still with as much enthusiasm from players. It is worth remembering that this is one of the most popular independent games of 2023. After being shared virally on Twitch and the like, the game is getting a second release that is likely to significantly increase its player base.
We also learned that a Godzilla expansion is planned. This will be available to all users starting in May. Dave the Diver will be coming to consoles in April, but we don't have the exact date yet.
Death Stranding 2 On The Beach
As expected, PlayStation has mentioned one of its next big hits, the sequel to Death Stranding. We now know that it is called Death Stranding 2 On The Beach, and more than a year after the first trailer, the game is showing itself in images. In total, the trailer lasts no less than 9 minutes, and shows us cutscenes, but also new gameplay. We will find Sam who must once again “reconnect the world”.
The landscapes follow one another, but are not alike, and our hero will have to tame his environment to carry out his mission. The game welcomes new characters, including an outstanding guitarist who already gives us shivers down our spines. No release date has been announced yet, but it won't be long.
Silent Hill 2 and The Short Message
Horror fans aren't left out with this State of Play. Sony has thought of them by revealing a new trailer for the remake of Silent Hill 2. It shows gameplay footage, which perfectly illustrates what the fight scenes will be like. The bad news is that no release date has been revealed yet. It’s not even known if the game is coming this year, although it’s already available on wishlists.
In addition to these revelations, the studio shared a big surprise: a free game for all players. Silent Hill: The Short Message is an experimental title, set in modern times, with a story centered around a new character. The goal is to be able to offer new players a quick entry point, which benefits from various gameplay mechanics, and which is easy to understand. The title is already available on PS5.
Stellar Blade
Metro Awakening VR
Fans of the Metro franchise will have a new installment to sink their teeth into, but in a very different way than the previous games. Sony hasn't forgotten its PSVR2 players and has announced Metro Awakening VR, a prequel that already looks very promising. The story of the title was written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author of the books that are at the origin of the other games in the franchise. It is set in 2028, before the events of the game Metro 2033.
In terms of gameplay, we will find the fundamentals of the license, namely shooting, survival and immersion. The VR side will reinforce this impression of incarnation due to the first person while offering optimal controls and new sensations. Metro Awakening VR has been in development in the Vertigo Games studios for over two years. He plans to release his baby this year, but isn't revealing a specific date just yet.
