Surprise departure from the boss of Honor

Nobody expected it: George Zhao, the CEO of Honor, has resigned from his position for personal reasons, namely health. In a memo intercepted by CNBC, he explains that this decision, "the most difficult" he has ever made, will allow him to rest and spend more time with his family.

Continuing the quest for notoriety

01net had the opportunity to speak with George Zhao, at the Viva Technology show, last May. He discussed the issues of generative artificial intelligence, the partnership with Google Cloud and the manufacturer's strategy in Europe.

His successor is Jian Li, who has worked for Honor for the past four years in various positions. He will be responsible for continuing the groundwork carried out by George Zhao to move upmarket (as seen with the recent Magic 7 Pro) and make the brand known internationally.

Honor broke away from Huawei in 2020 in order to avoid US sanctions against the Chinese telephone and telecoms giant. With some success: according to figures from Counterpoint, Honor exceeded 15% of the Chinese market last year, but the manufacturer only has a 2.4% share internationally.
