Asus' Xbox handheld console finally shows up, launch imminent

There has been talk for months about a possible upcoming portable Xbox, and it is now beginning to materialize. This isn't a product developed by Microsoft teams, however, but a special Xbox version of Asus's ROG Ally 2. The site 91mobiles spotted the device at certification bodies in Indonesia and the United States, and VideoCardz was responsible for recovering visuals from the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).

The ROG Ally 2 will be available in two models, one in black, and the other in white. Both have a special button next to the left joystick, where you can see the Xbox logo on the black version. It is not present on the white version, but it does use the Xbox color code on the A, B, X, and Y buttons.

The technical specifications differ depending on the model. The black console is the highest-end and features an eight-core AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip and 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM, for a thermal envelope of 36W. The white version makes do with an AMD Aeirth Plus APU, successor to the Van Gogh that powers the Steam Deck, and a TDP of 20W, with no information on the memory for the moment. For comparison, the Steam Deck has a TDP of 15W.

The display is a 7-inch screen supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. Two USB-C ports are positioned on the top edge of the device. The big question remains how deep the partnership between Asus and Xbox will be. It's still unclear what kind of experience will actually be offered to players. The Xbox button may launch the Xbox app (the console runs Windows with an Asus skin).

We should know more soon. It's probably no coincidence that this leak comes just days before Computex 2025, which runs from May 20 to 23.
