We’ve been hearing about the iPhone SE 4th generation for so long that waiting another month or two wouldn’t have been a big deal. But Apple is clearly in a hurry: Mark Gurman reports that this new model could be unveiled next week. No big event is planned, just a press release. As for the actual marketing, it would happen before the end of February.
Apple is wiping the slate clean
The Bloomberg snoop “confirms” the broad outlines of the device, if we can call them that: out goes the design from the iPhone 8, gone are the big borders around the screen, goodbye to the Touch ID home button! Apple is said to have set its sights on a design closer to the iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch screen, possibly Face ID in a notch (rumors have even gone so far as to mention a Dynamic Island), a single 48 MP camera, and something to run Apple Intelligence. The smartphone would debut the brand new 5G cellular chip developed in-house, replacing the Qualcomm modem.
That means a sufficiently powerful chip (the A18, present in the iPhone 16, is in the lead) and at least 8 GB of RAM. A major change compared to the A15 and the 4 GB of RAM of the current model, which has not been sold in Europe since last December. The 3rd generation iPhone SE, released in 2022, still includes a Lightning port... Its successor would logically have a USB-C port.
In the United States, stocks are also at their lowest, some configurations ordered today will not be available before March. As for the price, we should expect an increase given the enhanced technical specifications, but Apple would make sure to hover around $500.
This iPhone SE 4 could well be released at the same time as the Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones, more or less scheduled for February 11.
