You may not know this, but the Windows 11 lock screen can accommodate widgets. But until now, the offer was quite limited, and above all, it was not possible to customize them. Either you chose a widget to display, or you did not display any at all. Things are, it seems, about to change.
In build 22635.4870 or update KB5050087 published by Microsoft in the beta channel for members of its Insider program, a new feature. The latter, for the moment not activated in the OS, allows you to choose the widgets to display on the OS lock screen.
Custom widgets on the Windows 11 lock screen
For the moment, the function is not yet activated in the operating system. On Bluesky, leaker Phantomofearth, well known for dissecting Windows 11 previews in order to discover new features, indicated that these new widgets had to be activated manually. In addition to the obligation to use build 22635.4870, you will need to ensure that the Start Experience App, Web Experience Pack and Widget Platform Runtime applications are all up to date. To do this, you will need to go to the Microsoft Store to apply all available updates.
You then need to get your hands dirty in order to manually activate these new widgets using the ViVeTool utility. After opening the Terminal in administrator mode in the ViveTool directory, enter the following command and confirm by pressing the Enter button:
vivetool /enable /id:50179255,53672489
You will then only have to restart your PC for the changes made to be taken into account. In principle, after restarting your machine, the options offered in Settings > Personalization > Lock screen, should have changed somewhat.
You should indeed be able to customize the widgets that you want to see displayed on the Windows lock screen. You can display the weather, activate a timer, consult traffic information, or even consult the score of the latest matches of your favorite sports teams.
