The Google Pixel 9a, the expected successor to the Pixel 8a, is set to arrive in spring 2025. With a base price similar to its predecessor and significant improvements, it would have what it takes to stand out in an increasingly competitive segment.
A price that is almost unchanged for the Pixel 9a
According to Android Headlines, the Pixel 9a will be marketed from $499 in the United States for the 128 GB version, while the 256 GB model would cost $599, an increase of $40 compared to the previous generation. This increase is in line with the new pricing strategy adopted by Google with the Pixel 9, which cost €100 more than the Pixel 8.
For the Canadian market, prices vary slightly due to the exchange rate, with a price set at $679 for 128 GB and $809 for 256 GB. Unfortunately, we do not have prices in euros at the moment, but this gives a good trend of the pricing strategy that the American company could adopt. As a reminder, the price of the Google Pixel 8a in France was €549 at launch in its 128 GB version and €609 in its 256 GB version.
A technical sheet already known
Following a massive leak last December, we already know almost everything about the technical sheet of the Google 9a. Thus, the Pixel 9a introduces several notable improvements. It will be equipped with a 5100 mAh battery, the largest ever used on a Pixel model. The smartphone would also retain its compact format thanks to a 6.28-inch screen. The latter promises impressive brightness, reaching 2700 cd/m2 in peak and 1800 cd/m2 in HDR.
Under the hood, Google would opt for a Tensor G4 chip associated with 8 GB of RAM. On the storage side, two options would be available: 128 GB or 256 GB. The main camera would go to 48 megapixels, favoring a larger sensor, to the detriment of the number of megapixels (64 Mpx on the Pixel 8a). A 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor is also said to be present, but the Pixel 9a will still miss out on a telephoto lens.
