On the occasion of PlayStation's 30th anniversary (last December 3), Sony gave us a wonderful gift. An update to the PS5 allowed us to discover, not without surprise, a new console startup screen with the famous intro of the first PlayStation and the "Sony Interactive Entertainment" with the good sound that goes with it. Other surprises awaited players with menu themes dedicated to the four major PlayStation consoles.
Alas, a little over a month and a half after this nice surprise, PlayStation announced the withdrawal of these themes. But, maybe not indefinitely!
2025 is here, end of nostalgia at PlayStation
It was on PlayStation's official social networks that we learned the news. The retro themes dedicated to the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4, as well as the splash screen with the introduction of the first PlayStation will disappear from tonight, January 31, 2025.
So it's not a "farewell", but a "goodbye" since the themes should return in the coming months. Unfortunately, it is not certain that the power-up screen will return on its side.
In response to this tweet, PlayStation adds a clarification, confirming that there are no plans to see other themes being released on PS5: “While there are no plans to create additional themes in the future, we are excited to continue celebrating the legacy of PlayStation with all of you”.
