Thermomix: a data leak strikes kitchen robot users

Vorwerk, the German company that markets the Thermomix, says it has been the victim of a cyberattack. In an email to its customers, the company explains that it has noticed a "recent security incident." It only concerns the online forum www.espace-recettes.fr. The platform allows owners of a Thermomix multifunction food processor to share recipes with each other.

Stolen personal data

In Vorwerk's particularly laconic press release, we learn that security experts have discovered that the intrusion resulted in a "data leak". However, the German company does not specify what data was compromised by the attackers.

The firm behind the Thermomix simply assures that no "user passwords or sensitive financial information were affected". In the eyes of Clément Domingo, a cybersecurity researcher, it is likely that the information concerned is the surname, first name, telephone number and postal address of Internet users. This data obviously puts all the people concerned at risk.

Faced with this incident, the German firm assures that it has "taken all necessary measures" to resolve the problem. It is no longer possible to exploit the flaw to exfiltrate information about forum members. According to information from Clément Domingo, the breach comes from an IT service provider.

Yet another data breach in France

Vorwerk joins the list of companies that have been affected by a data breach, including Free, SFR, Picard, Auchan, and Boulanger. France has indeed experienced a real explosion in data breaches in 2024. According to research conducted by SurfShark, there were 14 times more data thefts in France than the previous year. In this context, we recommend that you be extra careful online.
