The Ulefone Note 16 Pro and Oukitel WP28 phones must be withdrawn from the French market, announces the national frequency agency. The reason? These two smartphones emit too many waves, which can have harmful consequences on the health of users.
Marketed by Tesskoni Tech and Bogdan Constantin Ecobici, these two devices are not known in France. They are nevertheless visible at major sellers and still available for sale at the time of writing. The ANFR's decision is unlikely to have the same impact as the iPhone 12 case in 2023, but the information remains important.
What's going on with these two smartphones?
During its checks, ANFR found that both smartphones exceed the 4 W/kg limit for the "member" SAR. Remember that the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measures the amount of electromagnetic energy absorbed by the human body when using a device. It is essential to respect certain limits to protect the health of users and the European limit of SAR "limb" for a mobile phone is 4 W/kg. Note that there is also a SAR measurement for the "head" and the "trunk", with a limit set at 2 W/kg.
The Ulefone Note 16 Pro was measured at 4.78 W/kg while the Oukital WP28 was flashed at 4.06 W/kg, which is higher than the limit of the SAR "limb" of 4 W/kg. Faced with these excesses, ANFR first formally notified the two manufacturers responsible for marketing these phones to take corrective measures. In the absence of measures taken by Tesskoni Tech and Bogdan Constantin Ecobici, the agency took administrative decisions to order the withdrawal and recall of the models concerned.
What should I do if I have one of these smartphones?
Distributors are required, in accordance with Article R. 20-13-1 of the CPCE (Consumer Code), to organize the withdrawal and recall of the phones. If you own an Ulefone Note 16 Pro or an Oukitel WP28, the ANFR invites you to return your phone to its point of sale.
The Ulefone Note 16 Pro is an entry-level Android smartphone, sold for around 100 euros. It has a modest technical sheet. The Oukitel WP28, offered at less than 200 euros, falls into the category of affordable rugged smartphones. It also has a modest configuration.
