The hassle of transferring data between an old PC and a new machine could soon be solved. Because until now, Windows 11 does not offer any option to do so. The procedure is indeed only possible using third-party software. However, things could change very quickly. Microsoft is developing a native data transfer feature for its operating system.
Windows 11 will soon be able to migrate data from your old PC to your new computer
Last year, while poking around a bit in the code of Windows 11 build 22635.3566 deployed by Microsoft in the beta channel for Insiders, leaker PhantomOfEarth found a clue that Microsoft was working on such a tool.
While the story could have ended there, another user, a_donglee, apparently also an Insider, managed to rebuild the interface of this supposed data migration application in Windows 11 build 22635.4945.
While he explains that these are not images of the actual application, but a reconstruction of the user interface elements that were hanging around in this build of Windows 11, he was still able to show what the native Windows 11 migration tool that Microsoft is currently working on could look like.
According to the elements he used to reconstruct the tool's interface, Microsoft's migration application would offer a wireless data transfer system. The two machines will a priori have to be connected to the same local network before being connected to each other.
No date as to the availability of this tool is currently known. The utility, which currently seems to be at a very early stage of development, should therefore not arrive for several weeks, or even several months, in the stable version of Windows 11.
