Xbox offered the preview on Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Tonight, the studio behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise will hold its Ubisoft Forward conference. While we were expecting to see some highly anticipated titles, we may get fewer than expected. Indeed, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, one of the studio's most mysterious games, was revealed the day before during the Xbox showcase. Surprisingly, it was the manufacturer that had the exclusivity of its first gameplay trailer.

We were able to see what the gameplay will look like of the new opus, after having had a glimpse of its story in the very first trailer, shared 3 weeks ago. We can see the two playable characters in action. As a reminder, players will be able to embody Yasuke, the historical black samurai, and Naoe, who is a shinobi (or ninja). However, this trailer does not share everything with us. The gameplay is cinematized, fluidified, and we do not find the real experience that will await players next November.

Two for the price of one

However, we can observe the two fighting styles of the protagonists, which translates as much in the pure action scenes as in the infiltration scenes. The shinobi justifies a much greater discretion than her colleague, with increased camouflage and rapid assassination capacities. Yasuke, for his part, does not do things by halves, tears down screens to reach his enemies, and does not need to be asked twice to increase the power of his blows.

For the moment, this trailer does not tell us anything about the management of the characters. We do not know if it will be possible to switch from one to the other at any time, whether the changes will be linked to the narrative – and therefore mandatory – or whether one of the two will have to be chosen at the beginning of the game and not changed later. We imagine that these are precisely the points that Ubisoft will clarify during its conference which will take place at 9 p.m.

The fact that Xbox has nevertheless obtained exclusivity for this revelation indicates to us that the two companies will still be partners for the release of the game. This was already the case during the launch of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was one of the headliners of the Xbox Series X/S. We don't expect a customized console or even a specific edition for Xbox players, but the possibility of integration into the Xbox Game Pass catalog in the months following its release cannot yet be ruled out. We remind you that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is still scheduled for November 15, also on PS5 and PC.
