Authorities in a European country have announced the closure of a pirate streaming service with around 30,000 customers. The large-scale operation took 2 years to bring to a close. the arrest of suspects.
While the famous Italian anti-piracy shield wants to extend from sports to films and series, the European authorities continue their work of dismantling illegal streaming services. After more than 2 years of investigation, one of them has to capitulate. He caused millions of euros in damage. At least that's what the German pay-TV provider behind the complaint claims. Its name is still unknown, as is the service in question, which had been operating for several years.
In a joint press release, the Hof Criminal Police and the Bavarian Central Cybercrime Office announced that they had made arrests. In total, more than 150 investigators were mobilized on the case. It reached its peak on February 18 with searches carried out in 17 properties. Of the 18 suspects concerned, 3 were arrested and placed in police custody. The total loot collected by the officers amounts to 16,000 euros in cash, 35,000 euros in in cryptocurrencies and more than 200 “digital devices“.
Major pirate streaming service shuts down after major police operation
Authorities say they have shut down “several servers suspected of being used for illegal streaming“. The three men arrested are aged 36, 37 and 59 respectively. The role of each is unclear at this stage, but police appear to be focusing on the youngest. In any case, the defendants are accused of “illegally making the pirate service in question available to more than 30,000 customers worldwide”.

Several other people are also accused of “reselling the illegal streaming service or using it” themselves. Their exact number is not specified. As for the main trio, currently incarcerated, they will appear in court soon. The penalties for the acts they are accused of range from 6 months to 10 years in prison.
