During a live broadcast on the Twitch platform, a La France Insoumise MP explained that he was using an IPTV service completely illegally. He stands by his words.
You're probably familiar with the principle of the Twitch platform: live streaming. A way to bring the streamer closer to their audience, who can interact with them easily. Over the years, there hasn't only been video games on the service. Several political figures have seized on it, for example, in order to discuss with citizens without filters, and with the risks that this entails.
Because live broadcasts mean the impossibility of cutting an embarrassing sentence during editing. We had a perfect example of this on March 26th during a broadcast by Raphaël Arnault, a member of the La France Insoumise (LFI) party. That day, he was accompanied by MP Sébastien Delogu, also with LFI. During the live broadcast, the latter let slip that he personally uses an illegal IPTV offer.
On Twitch, a MP declares that he uses an illegal IPTV service
The MP's statement is not at all a slip of the tongue. Sébastien Delogu fully assumes what he says: “I don't watch Netflix, I have IPTV and therefore IPTV is illegal, and I'm not interested in paying people who are going to make a lot of money from it.““
So there's no ambiguity, he wants to be honest with viewers. Remember that technically, IPTV is not illegal. This is a protocol that allows access to programs via the Internet. Platforms like Netflix, or even Prime Video, use it.

What is illegal, however, is using IPTV to obtain free access to channels or services that normally require a fee. Exactly as if you were pirating a movie instead of buying its Blu-Ray.
Currently, it is mainly the operators of pirate IPTV sites and the resellers of the associated boxes who are sanctioned. But more and more countries near us are getting tougher on users. In France, the penalties for fraudsters are already high: up to 3 years in prison and a €300,000 fine.
