Audi: the savings race is launched, 8% of its jobs will disappear

In 2024, Audi sold only 149,000 electric cars, despite its colossal investment efforts. A particularly low score, compared to BMW in particular, which recorded no fewer than 368,000 sales, not including those of Mini and Rolls-Royce. In a joint strategy with that of its parent company Volkswagen, Audi announced the elimination of 7,500 jobs by 2029, or 8% of its global workforce.

"Economic conditions are becoming increasingly difficult, competitive pressure and political uncertainties present "The company faces immense challenges," reads the press release from Audi, a subsidiary of Volkswagen. Spread over four years, the elimination should be possible only through voluntary departures and retirements.

All of the positions concern the manufacturer's German workforce. While 7,500 jobs therefore correspond to 8% of its workforce, they mainly correspond to 13.5% of its workforce located in Germany, the brand's birthplace. In February, other positions disappeared, this time in Belgium in a factory located on the outskirts of Brussels, with 3,000 people employed.

In its press release, Audi gave more details on his plan, and in particular the benefits of the savings. First, the positions concerned would be linked primarily to jobs in development and administration. Thanks to them, the brand would save one billion euros per year, enough, in the end to invest 8 billion in factories for production.

This is how the vice-president of the works council, Rainer Schirmer, congratulated himself on having "succeeded in "Securing the future of the two sites" in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, by modernizing them and even adding an "artificial intelligence and digitalization center" in Neckarsulm.
