It's an understatement to say that Baldur's Gate 3 has left its mark on the video game industry. The game has sold 15 million copies and is the 13th most played title concurrently on Steam. Its Metacritic scores of 96 from the press and 9.2 from fans add to the data testifying to the admiration aroused by Larian Studios' production.
Unsurprisingly, players who have completed This long and rich adventure are logically waiting with great impatience to learn more about Baldur’s Gate 4. Hasbro, the license rights holder, gives news of this sequel which will not be developed by Larian Studios.
Hasbro really wants a Baldur’s Gate 4 soon
IGN was able to speak with Dan Ayoub, senior vice president of digital games at Hasbro, during GDC 2025. Of course, the media took the opportunity to ask him about the future of Baldur’s Gate. "We're in the process of developing our plans for the future and what we're going to do with that. And in fact, in a short while, we'll have some things to say about it," assures Dan Ayoub.
This will greatly please the millions of players who are waiting for a certain Baldur's Gate 4. Hasbro is clearly hoping to deliver a very ambitious new installment, even without Larian Studios at the helm. "We have to go further. I think that's what we're hoping for, isn't it? We'll continue to raise the bar and everyone will try to go a little further," says Dan Ayoub.
In April 2024, Hasbro revealed that it was in discussions with several studios to determine which one would take over. Eugene Evans, senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing at Hasbro, stated his desire not to see 25 years pass between the release of Baldur's Gate 3 and 4, as was the case between the second and third installments. No doubt fans share his wish. In any case, we will certainly have to wait several months before having real information on Baldur's Gate 4.
Remember that Baldur's Gate 3 continues to be updated by Larian Studios. It remains very popular and welcomes tens of thousands of players on Steam every day, even a year and a half after its release.
