Sometimes the most incongruous collaborations are the best. And in the comics industry, there seems to be no limit to the universes that can be mixed. While Marvel has been collaborating with Capcom since the 90s, DC is now unveiling a crossover with another icon of the Japanese video game industry. In DC x Sonic the Hedgehog, the Justice League and SEGA mascots must join forces to save their respective worlds from a supervillain who is after the multiverse.
A celebration of the two pop culture giants
This new five-issue comic series – the first of which was just published on March 19, 2025 – has something to delight fans of Sonic and DC heroes. With a story by Ian Flynn, the writer behind the excellent Sonic comics of recent years, the two franchises blend wonderfully for an adventure as epic as it is nostalgic. Who better than the formidable Darkseid to offer a formidable adversary to the blue hedgehog, Superman and all their friends?
Always faithful to his need to rewrite the multiverse, the cult antagonist of the DC universe invites himself into Sonic's world to try to steal "the ultimate power" contained within Shadow. Is the lord of Apokolips a threat that SEGA's heroes can face? One thing is certain, the Justice League does not intend to abandon them to their sad fate. This commemorative adventure promises to be more mature than one might think, since the synopsis states that “throughout the five issues of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog, sacrifices will have to be made, heroes will be revealed and the need for speed will force both the Justice League and Team Sonic to push their limits“.
The first issue is already available in comic book stores and on specialized sales sites for 3.99 euros. The second volume will be published on April 16, while the third will hit shelves on May 21. The publication date of the last two issues has not yet been determined. official.
A crossover conducive to goodies
Unsurprisingly, the collaboration between Warner Bros Discovery and SEGA of America will go further than these comics alone.Planned for late 2025, a collection of clothing, toys, and collectibles will feature SEGA characters in the colors of DC heroes: Shadow as Batman, Knuckles as Superman, Amy as Wonder Woman, Silver as Green Lantern, Tails as Cyborg, and Sonic as Flash.
