Even before the partnership between PlayStation and Discord announced last year resulted in the appearance of voice chat on Sony consoles, Xbox took the lead by integrating the VoIP giant into its interface. Goodbye to complicated setups to chat with your friends during your console games, Microsoft finds the solution to all your problems with a Discord client native to the Xbox. Currently available in test version only, this update interface update will soon be launched on all Xbox Series X and S as well as Xbox One.
Far from the multiple features that Discord offers on PC and mobile, the Xbox client offers the basic options necessary for voice chat in a few clicks. It is then possible to join the voice channels of the servers of which one is a part or to discuss via private conversations. To make the experience even more practical, it is also possible to adjust the volume of other users in an intuitive way. If you are impatient to discover these features on your console, know that it is already possible to get started with testing Discord for Xbox.
How to install this new update?
À At the time of writing, getting Discord on your console requires following a few specific steps. The first thing to do (if you haven't already) is to join the Xbox Insiders program by carefully following Microsoft's instructions available at this address. Once this step is completed, you will have to wait until access to the latest update is offered to you.
Then, the procedure following is quite simple and will only take a few minutes to link your Xbox and Discord accounts:
- Press the Xbox button to open the interface.
- Select the Groups and Chats tab to discover the option “Try Discord on Xbox”.
- A QR code to scan allows you to link your accounts.
- Joining a channel is done via the Discord application which will offer its own “Join on Xbox” button to transfer your conversation to your console.
Of course, these features are still experimental and may not work for you. Access to this test is also not guaranteed, although Microsoft seems to be offering this update to most Xbox Insiders. If you have any issues, please refer to Xbox FAQ.
