A new "tax" will hit the 2.1 million households that still do not have a Linky meter. Enedis plans to charge them additional fees due to what the distributor and the CRE estimate to be additional costs caused by the refusal to use the new meters.
While 37 million households are Already equipped with the Linky smart electricity meter, some are still, willingly or unwillingly, resisting. In 2025, there will still be 2.1 million people using an old-generation electricity meter. A situation that covers two realities: on the one hand, users categorically refuse to use the new meter for various reasons. Including a supposed impact on electro-sensitive people, the fear of a risk of fire starting, or even the fear of paying high electricity bills. more expensive.
But also households more open to replacing their old-generation meter and who are simply waiting for an opportunity (or a little help) to do so. The switch to Linky meters is a legal obligation, this meter being the property of the energy distributor. But various court decisions have recognized special cases, leading millions of households to keep their old meter.
How much extra will some users have to pay?
The CRE and Enedis now estimate that this minority involves costs on the network. Costs that will therefore be billed to them starting this summer, every two months. Rest assured, this cost, while significant, should not result in an unrecognizable bill. But they represent an increase that some would undoubtedly have preferred to do without.
Enedis, with the agreement of the CRE, will thus be able to apply two additional costs to subscribers who do not have a Linky meter. From August 1, 2025, all subscribers with an old-generation meter will pay an additional charge of €6.48 every two months. In the event that the user refuses to transmit their consumption readings or access to their meter, an additional charge of €4.14 will apply. are added every month.
Ultimately, this "Linky tax" should translate into an additional charge of between 40 and 63 euros per year. This should encourage people to change their meter as soon as possible. Doing so is very simple. Simply contact Enedis at 0970831970 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The installation can then be scheduled with a technician. It only takes about thirty minutes.
