It was announced at the Mobile World Congress in early March, and it's now released. Gemini Live offers two new features to further facilitate exchanges between the AI assistant and its users. Google's AI can now "see" to give advice, by accessing the screen and the smartphone camera.
Gemini Live becomes an image consultant...
Thanks to the screen sharing feature, users can now ask Gemini Live questions about what is displayed on their screen. One of the two videos revealing these latest features features a woman shopping online wondering what she could wear with the pants she is about to add to her cart.
"These jeans have a cool, relaxed fit. For a casual look, you can pair it with a simple white T-shirt or a black turtleneck,” suggests Gemini Live. When the user tells her she likes the turtleneck, she continues with another request. This time, she wants to know which jacket to wear given that the pants are baggy. The AI keeps the thread and replies: “Since the jeans are rather baggy, a denim jacket or bomber jacket could be cool and casual.” Cristina Córdula may have something to worry about. get...
...and can help choose a nail polish color
In the video introducing the camera view feature, Google goes from fashion to home decor. A user films the latest vase she bought, along with two pots, before asking the AI which nail polish color would be best for a "mid-century modern" look. Based on the colors in the photo, I think olive green or matte blue best fit the mid-century modern style.
Still undecided, the person shows the camera the two already varnished pots again to ask which of the two colors goes best together. The AI opts for olive green, specifying where the color is located in the palette shown by the user.
This announcement comes a year after Google demonstrated Project Astra. This featured an AI acting as an assistant, interacting vocally with users and reacting to images and videos. The new features are currently only available through the Google AI One Premium subscription, which offers deeper integration of AI tools into Google apps.
