Since this year, Xbox has completely changed its strategy regarding exclusive games by offering, for the first time, exclusives on PlayStation. This is the case of Sea of Thieves, Pentiment or even Grounded which arrived on PS5 and Switch in April 2024. While we learned a few days ago that Microsoft had confirmed its desire to continue this strategy, with, why not, the arrival of bigger games like Halo, Gears of War or even Forza Horizon, it seems that Sony, for its part, does not want to change its vision.
Helldivers 2 will never be released on Xbox
In early 2024, Helldivers2 surprised everyone on PS5 and PC and became one of the biggest hits of the beginning of the year. An online game that won over players and managed to achieve great statistics, well above expectations. Faced with such a phenomenon, many Xbox players hoped to see the title arrive on Xbox Series X/S. Especially since the game was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but it was not developed by a PlayStation Studio. Sadly, that's not likely to happen.
During a recent podcast, insider Shpeshal Nick confirmed that talks took place between Sony and Microsoft earlier this year to release Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X/S. Sadly, these negotiations fell through and the insider confirmed that the port will never see the light of day.
A rather questionable strategy on the part of the Japanese manufacturer. Today, with the arrival of online services like Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, Sony and Microsoft would have every interest in offering their exclusives on PC and competing consoles in order to reach even more players. By including First-Party "Day One" games in their services, Microsoft and Sony are making the offer more attractive, without depriving players on other platforms who will also be able to enjoy the games by paying full price. Let's hope that Sony changes its ways in the years to come.
For 3 years now, First-Party PlayStation games have been ported to PC, which was not the case on the PS4 generation. Proof that things are changing and moving in the right direction.
