The folding smartphone is taking a new turn in 2025, with new arguments to convince the most skeptical. The Oppo Find N5 has just confirmed this by seizing the record for thinness for a folding device (8.93 mm when folded), doing better than the 9.2 mm of the Magic V3. Honor has not said its last word and is preparing a response with the Magic V4, a smartphone that looks very promising.
Magic V4 vs Find N5: Honor wants to knock out its opponent
The future high-end folding smartphone will be designed to compete with the Oppo Find N5 in terms of thinness and performance. The Honor Magic V4 would also fall below the 9 mm thickness mark (around 8.9 mm) and could inherit the title of the thinnest folding smartphone on the market. To accompany this thinness, Honor would offer a magnesium alloy frame and a titanium folding mechanism for greater lightness and increased durability. The Magic V4 would also be IPX8 certified for water resistance.
Under the hood, the Magic 4 would stand out by featuring a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with 8 cores to offer superior performance to that of the Oppo Find N5. The latter also uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip from Qualcomm, but in a 7-core version. Honor would add up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage on its folding model.
Larger screens and an improved camera block
The Magic V4 would also be an opportunity for the manufacturer to improve the display of its folding smartphone. The future device would have a main screen of around 8 inches displaying in 2K, with LTPO technology and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This new panel could be slightly larger than that of the Magic V3 (7.92 inches) while the external screen would go from 6.43 to 6.45 inches. The latter would benefit from the same characteristics, namely LTPO and 120 Hz.
In photos, the Magic V4 kept the main 50 megapixel sensor (1/1.5 inch) of the Magic V3 and would benefit from a new telephoto lens. The brand would replace the 50-megapixel zoom of the current model with a 200-megapixel sensor (1/1.4 inch) with a 3x optical zoom. This change should help the folding smartphone to be more versatile in photography, with more detailed shots. For the rest, there is talk of compatibility with satellite communication or even a side fingerprint sensor and wireless charging.
The Honor Magic V4 is announced as a serious customer in the foldable smartphone segment. It should be officially presented in June.
