The ultra-thin smartphone is one of the trends of 2025. In addition to the behemoths of Samsung and Apple, the Galaxy S25 Edge and the probable iPhone 17 Air, a Chinese manufacturer unknown in the West, Tecno has pulled out of its hat its version of the concept, the SPARK Slim. We were able to get our hands on it at MWC 2025.
A smartphone so light that it feels like a toy
The first impression is disconcerting. Because the SPARK Slim is not only thin, it is also very light. We almost feel like we are holding a toy with its 146 g. For reference, one of the lightest smartphones on the market, the Honor Magic 7 Lite weighs 189 g. This is so shocking that the manufacturer assures that it even added weight to avoid destabilizing too much.
In terms of thinness itself, it stands at 5.75 mm. This would put the Chinese manufacturer in the race since the Galaxy S25 Edge, whose official thickness is still unknown, could be 5.84 mm according to rumors.
Battery with unknown technology
Despite this thinness, the device would not have sacrificed its battery. It is established at a very comfortable value of 5200 mAh, a sign of a good energy density. Usually, the combination of thinness and a large battery capacity means a simple fact: the manufacturer has used the new fashionable technology, silicon carbon.
But no! According to the statements collected on the stand by the product manager in charge of the device, Tecno is based on a different technology, whose energy density would be 800 Wh/kg all the same. This one would not have a marketing name, but Tecno claims that it would have less impact on the durability of the battery than Silicon-carbon.
Let us remember that the Tecno PARK Slim is not a commercial product at this stage, but a concept. In addition, the Chinese manufacturer still has an anecdotal presence in France, where it has been selling PCs since December 2024. Smartphones should not take too long to hit the market.
