Working in the blazing sun isn't particularly pleasant, so it might as well be useful. Lenovo has unveiled an astonishing laptop concept, the Yoga Solar: its cover is equipped with a... solar panel! After 20 minutes of exposure to the sun, it can generate 1 hour of video playback.
The Lépine concept competition
The panel is equipped with Back Contact Cell (BCC) photovoltaic cells: the electrical connections are placed at the back of the cell instead of at the front as on traditional panels. This technology offers a better conversion rate (24%) than traditional panels, which run at between 10 and 22%. This PC is a concept that is not currently planned for commercialization.
Still on the subject of concepts, Lenovo presented two other new products: the AI Display, a monitor equipped with a dedicated NPU chip that gives it sufficient computing power to process AI functions (32 TOPS). No need to change PC, the screen takes care of everything: support for local language models, AI graphics acceleration, support for Lenovo AI Now functions. In the same vein, the AI Stick takes up the idea in the form of a simple USB-C stick integrating a similar NPU.
The Lépine competition for bizarre ideas doesn't stop there. The manufacturer's stand also presents a concept laptop with a foldable OLED screen. By default, the ThinkBook Flip has a diagonal of 13.1 inches. Once unfolded, the finally offers a display surface of 18.1 inches in height (2000 x 2664)! The trackpad also integrates touch shortcut keys.
Another idea, another concept: the Magic Bay range are additional screens to attach to your laptop. There is an 8-inch vertical model that makes it easier to read feeds; a duo of 13.3-inch external monitors to place on either side of the PC screen; a small horizontal control monitor that is positioned above the PC screen; and a round model displaying emojis, because why not.
The Chinese manufacturer is also launching a battery of new, more sensible laptops, including a refresh of the 16-inch Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition featuring a GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card and an Intel Core Ultra processor. Also worth noting is the 14- and 16-inch Yoga 7 2-in-1, laptops that transform into large tablets by folding the screen onto the body. These models run on Ryzen AI 300 chips offering an NPU power of 50 TOPS.
