A situation which had pushed the company to suspend its deployment in the EU and stopped training its model on the data of its European users.
Finally, Meta is reaching the goal and announcing the largest global expansion of Meta AI to date. The AI of the American social networking giant was already used by more than 700 million users per month.
A personal assistant integrated into your conversations
Accessible to all and completely free, Meta AI is at the heart of Meta's applications in the form of a personal assistant (chatbot) integrated into conversations. A new icon will appear on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp to allow dialogue directly in the chat interface of these platforms. As with ChatGPT or Gemini, it will be possible to start a discussion with the assistant and even call out to it in group conversations.
Thanks to By using the "@MetaAI" tag, users can request the assistant for a multitude of tasks:
- Information and research: ask questions, delve deeper into current topics...
- Help and assistance: get a tutorial, a solution to technical problem, get advice...
- Entertainment and inspiration: find ideas for outings, cooking recipes, content suggestions...
- Group discussion: organize an event, plan a trip, lead a conversation...
Meta's goal is to prevent users from having to switch between tabs to find information. For now, the initial launch focuses on chat features and support for six European languages. French is on the list, along with English and Spanish.
Meta already plans to expand its assistant by adding customization and memory options, as well as creation tools such as AI Studio. These new features will offer the ability to to get answers based on user interests and preferences, but also to generate images, stickers, and other forms of creative content.
