Microsoft's income and its gaming section (Xbox) are still falling

Microsoft's income and its gaming section (Xbox) are still falling

As we knew, the end of 2024 was not very good for Microsoft and its Gaming branch. At least, not on console sales with the million sales mark not reached for the Xbox Series X/S and those despite Black Friday. Today, the American firm is revealing its results for the previous quarter (the October-December 2024 period) and the gaming division is falling again.

More losses on hardware

Microsoft's income and its gaming section (Xbox) are still falling

It is with the publication of its latest results that we learn that Microsoft's gaming branch, Xbox, suffered a loss of 7% during the previous quarter which ended on December 31, 2024. Worse still, the sale of hardware products (therefore Xbox Series X/S) fell by -29% over the same period. Which explains the difficulty of the machines to reach a million sales in recent months, even during Black Friday (while the PS5 and Switch were doing very well).

The only positive touch regarding gaming on the Microsoft side is a 2% increase in the content and services section, confirming the good shape of the Xbox Game Pass. Overall, Microsoft is not at complain and is not in crisis, since across all its services, the American firm is showing a 12% increase in its revenues, allowing it to reach 69.6 billion dollars for the entire group.

Unfortunately, the gaming section remains important and its figures are probably not going to help develop video games. However, we recall that according to rumors, which would be "an open secret" in the industry, Microsoft would indeed be preparing a new generation of Xbox, codenamed "Prime" which would be expected for the end-of-year holidays of 2026. So watch this space! For its part, Sony is also starting to talk about the arrival of a PS6. The next-gen is already upon us.
