Mindseye: Everything we know to date (release date, price, history, context, gameplay ...)

MindsEye is the next game from Leslie Benzies, the former producer of the Grand Theft Auto saga and president of the Rockstar North studio (between 2000 and 2016). After being fired by Take Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company), Leslie Benzies founded his own studio, Build A Rocket Boy, and began development on his ambitious Everywhere project.

Everywhere was to be a Metaverse, similar to Fortnite, allowing it to be much more than a video game. The goal was to be a true "second world", offering an experience, more than a video game, with "normal" sequences and virtual reality areas. The goal of Everywhere is to be a platform for socializing with other people, playing games, watching movies, doing activities, and much more.

At the moment, the project seems rather vague and confusing, and it's still unclear where the studio wants to go and when the project will finally arrive. But, in any case, MindsEye was originally supposed to be a game available in Everywhere.

Announced in March 2023, the game has undergone quite a few upheavals and changes. Now, it's being produced in partnership with IO Interactive (Hitman) and is expected to be released like any other game, in stores. To find out everything about this project, which promises to be quite enigmatic, we offer you a special report with all the information we have to date. Of course, the file will be continuously updated over the weeks and months, until the game's release.

Will MindsEye be a single-player or multiplayer game?

Most recent update:

Update – March 29, 2025: In their recent press release announcing the release of MindsEye on June 10, 2025, Build A Rocket Boy once again confirms that it will be a single-player game. However, the studio also confirmed that a multiplayer experience was in the works and that it will arrive next year, in 2026. No further information at this time.

MindsEye will be a single-player game only, and was not expected to feature an online mode. Since the game was planned to be released in Everywhere, it is unknown whether online features were planned to be present in connection with Everywhere, or not.

What will MindeEye be about?

MindsEye is an action-adventure game set in the near future, in the fictional desert city of Redrock. In the game, artificial intelligence and human greed collide to bring Earth to the brink of collapse. The title is described by the studio Build A Rocket Boy as a game featuring a captivating story, strategic combat, and explosive driving.

In this game, we will play as Jacob Diaz, who is played by Alex Hernandez, the actor who played Lincoln Clay in Mafia III. Jacob Diaz is a former soldier haunted by flashbacks of a life-changing undercover mission. He will be the driving force behind the game's plot, as Jacob possesses a mysterious brain implant, known as MindsEye. Knowing that he himself knows almost nothing about this implant.

Jacob arrives in Redrock hoping to discover more about the company that created his implant. His quest for answers begins as a personal quest, but it quickly evolves into something much bigger. Because, inevitably, Jacob is not the only one seeking the truth, and the forces working in the shadows are more powerful and dangerous than anything he could have imagined.

Will MindsEye be an open-world?

Yes, the game will allow you to explore the city of Redrock in complete freedom with this futuristic atmosphere and the omnipresence of robots and AI, allowing you to create new interactions and face new dangers. The open-world will allow you to discover how much AI has been able to change the way of life of residents and humans.

The city of Redrock will feature automated systems that manage many aspects of the city. Of course, this will give you access to quite a few side stories, perspectives, and hidden truths just waiting to be discovered.

Combat, driving, what does MindsEye promise?

The game should offer you intense action, whether on foot, behind the wheel, and even in the air, where every decision can mean the difference between survival and death.

The game should offer dynamic gameplay where you will be able to use your environment to gain the upper hand on your opponents. It will be possible to take cover, find high points, transform your environment into tools for survival, whether by exploding a gas barrel at the right time or using your enemies' weapons to your advantage.

The studio promises a fluid, dynamic, and rewarding combat system for the player who adapts his approach to each encounter. It will even be possible to activate your drone, which will support you as you progress through the missions.

But gunfights won't be the only important points of the game. MindsEye will also offer driving, including high-speed chases that punctuate Jacob's adventure, pushing his piloting skills to their limits. These sequences will take you through varied environments, ranging from crowded cities to industrial areas, campsites and deserts, immersing you in a living and breathing world in constant motion.

Will you need to own Everywhere to play MindsEye?

Mindseye: Everything we know to date (release date, price, history, context, gameplay ...)

Originally, this seemed to be the plan. MindsEye was supposed to be a game in the Everywhere experience. But, apparently, things have changed with the partnership with IO Interactive, which will publish the game. Thus, the title should be available for purchase like any other game.
