On Netflix, Willy Wonka's universe becomes a reality TV

In 2021, Netflix acquired the rights to the Roald Dahl Company. This acquisition has led to captivating projects, such as the anthology The Marvelous History of Henry Sugar and three other tales directed by Wes Anderson with Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, and Dev Patel. But the red N doesn't just have the ambition to adapt the British author's works; it wants to capture his imagination and exploit it in numerous formats.

For once, the company is looking to reality TV. She is actively working on developing a TV game show about Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory. This choice is hardly surprising, as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remains the standard-bearer of Dahl's bibliography worldwide. Except that Warner Bros. has already acquired this license in cinemas and is actively developing a second film dedicated to the great chocolatier, now played by Timothée Chalamet. The studio is not mentioned in the credits.

“A unique competition of its kind”

It is on YouTube that the red N made its project official. We see the famous golden ticket, the item from which the program takes its name. Netflix promises a surprising competition, with unimaginable challenges. The announcement comes with the official announcement of the casting call. According to the summary, participants will have the chance to enter Wonka's Chocolate Factory, provided they find a golden ticket. And even after winning the precious ticket, the players are in for a surprise. It won't be a walk in the park. They will have to adapt and develop strategies to win all the challenges of the game.

Jeff Gaspin, Vice President of Unscripted Programming at Netflix, is delighted with this project. "We are thrilled to bring the magic of The Chocolate Factory to life like never before. This unique reality TV competition blends adventure, strategy, and social dynamics, creating an experience as captivating as it is unpredictable. For the first time, a few lucky people won't just have to imagine the experience, they'll get to enter the factory and live it.

For now, the broadcast date of this show remains a mystery. Casting has indeed been launched but only residents of the United States can participate. They must be over 18 years old. The filming location will be announced later, the platform invites its subscribers to be patient.
