Orange subscribers will be entitled free of charge to the "real" 5G

Orange subscribers will be entitled free of charge to the "real" 5G

After SFR and Free Mobile, Orange is launching two 5G offers dedicated to the general public, including one with ChatGPT Plus. And good news, if you are already with Orange, one of them is free. If the historic operator already offered a 5G+ offer, it was dedicated to professionals (SMEs and businesses). This time, Orange is targeting individuals on Thursday, March 6, as Free Mobile and SFR did a few months earlier.

The operator is launching a 5G+ "with dedicated bandwidth for the general public", with two packages available from this Thursday: a first "free" one will be offered to its 5G general public customers, the second paid one will offer a 5G+, Netflix and ChatGPT Plus combo for 41 euros per month, the company details in a press release.

Free 5G+ for Orange subscribers

Let's start with the free one: Orange "General Public 5G" subscribers will be able to have access to the "very high speeds of 5G+, the largest network deployed on the 3.5 GHz frequency band" at no additional cost. As a reminder, two types of antennas allow 5G: 3.5 GHz antennas (on which the famous 5G SA is based, sometimes described as "the real 5G") which offer higher speeds. 700 MHz antennas have a lower frequency: they carry further, but allow lower speeds.

This "real" 5G connection, called 5G+, will allow a latency time of less than a millisecond and a theoretical speed of several gigabits per second, according to the promises of 5G. Orange is making progress with this offerless latency, voice calls directly on the 5G network, and "encryption of SIM card identification data".

The plan is a "monthly option without commitment reserved for customers of an Orange 5G mobile offer", but be careful: it does not work if you have subscribed to "Open 5G offers and 5G mobile offers before May 2023". For Sosh subscribers, it's also a failure. For others, you just have to go to your personal account and activate this option.

Also note that to benefit from it, you need a compatible smartphone: contacted by 01net.com, Orange told us that only eleven Android smartphones were currently concerned, such as the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra from Samsung, the Xiaomi 14, 14T Pro and 13 Pro, or the Honor Magic 7 Pro. By the end of the semester, "around sixty mobiles" will be compatible, a figure that will double by the end of the year, the operator explained.

A ChatGPT Plus/Netflix/5G+ combo for 41 euros per month... or 25 euros per month for 18-26 year-olds

At the same time, the company is also launching a paid 5G+ offer, which combines "real" 5G with Netflix and ChatGPT Plus. This is the “Special Series 180 GB 5G+” which allows you to have Netflix (with advertising) for 6 months — you will then have to add €5.99/month, and ChatGPT Plus for 12 months (you will then have to pay €23/month in addition).

A month earlier, Free had made a similar announcement, offering another generative AI tool, Le Chat Pro de Mistral, to its customers for free for one year.

With this offer, Orange promises, “you benefit from dedicated bandwidth, perfect in case of high traffic”. Orange’s offer (5G+, Netflix and ChatGPT Plus) is without commitment: it will cost you €41/month. But this price drops to €25/month for 18-26 year-olds — you must then use the “Cheat_Code_18_26,” Orange explains.

Be careful, however, the paid 5G+ offer is reserved for new subscribers: it cannot be subscribed to by “customers with an Orange or Sosh offer” who wish to change their offer. It also cannot be chosen by anyone who already has a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription. The “Special Series 180 GB 5G+” is only for new customers who do not have or have never had a paid ChatGPT subscription.
