A little bit of positivity in this industry that has been in turmoil in recent years. For several months, we've been announcing, not without regret, the layoffs of numerous developers and even the closure of studios around the world. Today, good news, as PlayStation has just created a new studio with Dark Outlaws Games.
A new PlayStation Studios in the family
It's official, Sony has just created a new video game studio that joins the other PlayStation Studios with Dark Outlaws Games.
It is thus the 18th First-Party studio of PlayStation alongside Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games and Sucker Punch to name but a few.
Dark Outlaws Games has been entrusted to Jason Blundell, one of the creators of the famous "Zombies" mode of Call of Duty. Jason Blundell spent 13 years at Activision before creating the Deviation Games studio in 2020. Unfortunately, this studio, which was funded by Sony, closed its doors in March 2024 without having released a single game. We therefore hope that Dark Outlaws Games will have better success.
Jason Blundell announced the opening of the studio during a video podcast on YouTube. He specifies that the studio is in the middle of a recruitment period and that we should therefore not expect information right away, although a first game is indeed in development and that Blundell himself will be in charge of production.
When we know the gentleman's past (with the Zombie from Call of Duty) and that we rely on the name of the studio (which we can translate as "Shadow Outlaw"), we imagine that it will be a rather obscure game. To be continued!
