In an ad spotted by PetaPixel, Polaroid has just unveiled its third generation of Now and Now+ cameras, with new features and a colorful design.
For those unfamiliar with these products, they are modern takes on the legendary Polaroid, the very first instant camera released in the end of the 40s. Unlike DSLRs and other types of current digital cameras, their main interest is to spit out the captured image almost immediately, instead of simply saving it on a digital medium. A particularity that makes Polaroids quite popular among fans of old-school analog photography.
New features
This third generation benefits from substantial improvements in various sensors (distance, ambient light, etc.), which have both been improved and repositioned to improve its efficiency. A new dual-lens autofocus system should also allow for sharper images.
Both models are also compatible with tripods and many types of filters (sold separately). They also include a timer for taking delayed photos as well as a double exposure mode. Pure optics, the Polaroid Now 3rd generation offers six different apertures, from f/11 to f/64.
Of course, the Now+ model is also entitled to all these new features. But as a bonus, it is also designed to connect to a smartphone application that allows you to control the camera from distance.
The basic model is available in 6 different colors: Graphite, Violet, Arctic Blue, Yellow, Gravel (a rather elegant gray-beige) and Coral. The Now+ version, on the other hand, will only be entitled to four different shades: White, Coral, Arctic Blue and Black.
Available today
In terms of price, the Polaroid Now and Now + are respectively offered at 129.99 and 149.99 euros. A fairly reasonable price that could make it a nice gift for a loved one wishing to get back into the world of old-fashioned photography. Both models are available today on the brand website.
Note, however, that you will also need to purchase a box of Polaroid's proprietary Color 600 or Color i-Type film, which are sold from 17 euros for the color version. This film is also available on the company's website, but you can also easily get it on platforms like Amazon.
