PS5: Good news for Portal PlayStation users

PS5: Good news for Portal PlayStation users

Released last year, PlayStation Portal has finally found its audience despite our pre-launch reservations. The product is far from selling like hotcakes, but the more time passes, the more players find it useful. The user experience has just been improved since new games can be streamed to the device.

At launch, Sony promised compatibility for more than 120 PS5 games, accessible via the PlayStation Plus service catalog. But it seems that this compatibility has since extended to certain games from the Premium catalog with a few retro titles as a bonus. We don't yet know all the compatible titles, but we already note the presence of Ape Escape, Tekken and Legend of Dragoon in the catalog. We will have to check the availability of the next titles offered in PlayStation Plus on March 18.

Sony has not made any official communication on this availability, so we don't know if it only concerns members registered for the beta or if it will arrive for all players soon. We will have to wait for news from PlayStation to confirm its global deployment.

As a reminder, the PlayStation Portal requires a PS5 to work. This is not a portable console, but rather a secondary screen with which you will be able to stream (play remotely) the games of your PS5 without investing the screen of your living room or your computer, snug in your bed or even in the toilet if you wish.

An increasingly profitable investment

We also remind you that classic games are only available via the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. This is a service offered by Sony on its consoles giving you access each month to games that can be downloaded for free and which allows you to play online on multiplayer games. The plan (containing 700 PS/PS2/PS3/PS4/PS5 games, streaming on PC, free trials) is priced at €16.99 per month / €49.99 per quarter / €151.99 per year.

If this doesn't fit your budget, other plans are available at a lower cost, and also allow you to enjoy streaming games on PlayStation Portal, but with fewer compatible titles. The basic plan is available at €8.99 per month, €24.99 per quarter or €71.99 per year and the Extra plan (400 PS4/PS5 games) is priced at €13.99 per month / €39.99 per quarter / €125.99 per year. If you're still unsure which one to choose, refer to our complete guide.
