Available since November 7, the PS5 Pro is far from being unanimously approved by gamers. Aside from its hefty price tag of 800 euros for the digital version (more than 950 euros for the version with a player and the stand to make it stand up), it's in terms of performance that the console struggles to win over. Indeed, many gamers (and industry professionals) are highlighting a lack of difference between the rendering of the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro.
Aware of this concern, Sony has reacted and has just announced that a major improvement will be made to the console next year, allowing for improved game rendering.
The PS5 Pro will improve its PSSR
One of the big new features of the PS5 Pro, in addition to its improved power, is the addition of PSSR, an upscaling technology boosted by AI, allowing for improved rendering and visual quality of games (and therefore to have titles in 4K and 60 FPS). Unfortunately, this technology has not yet convinced players and the press.
Mark Cerny, the architect of the PS5 Pro, has just confirmed that a major PSSR update will be deployed in 2026, which will greatly improve the functionality. This update will be inspired by FSR 4, the new upscaling technology developed by AMD. Thanks to this, we will be entitled to even more games in 4K and 60 FPS with higher quality Really improved and sharper image quality.
The current PSSR is quite convincing, even if for some games, it remains complicated. With this new update, Sony intends to make a significant difference. Mark Cerny confirms that the teams are currently working on the process, but that it takes time because of the new neural network that needs to be developed.
The release of this update is expected for 2026, without further details. We hope that it will really make a big difference on most current and future games.
