Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: a real boost for the saga?

The news released at the beginning of the year quickly ignited the fan community. The idea of having a star like Ryan Gosling in the galaxy far, far away could well give the saga a boost.

Ryan Gosling, a real plus for the galaxy?

According to Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, this film would be "a standalone Star Wars, which takes place five or six years after The Rise of Skywalker," as she indicated to Deadline. In short, no legendary Jedi or previously seen galactic battles, but a brand new story. Kathleen Kennedy also hinted that this film could open a new era for the saga in cinema.

What if this Gosling/Levy Star Wars was the one that would finally get the franchise out of its rut? In recent years, several films announced with great fanfare—such as those by Patty Jenkins (Rogue Squadron), Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi), or Taika Waititi—have ended up disappearing into the fog of stalled projects. The fact that it seems to be moving quickly is rather reassuring.

Ryan Gosling in Star Wars is an unlikely but exciting pairing. The actor, known for his intense roles and charisma (Drive, Blade Runner 2049, etc.), could bring real depth to the universe. Not to mention his absurd humor and talent for comedy (Barbie), which would fit well with Shawn Levy's style.

Plus, Star Wars has always had a tradition of clever casting. We remember Alec Guinness and Liam Neeson, respected figures who came to give weight to the first films. Ryan Gosling in a central role could therefore be an ideal choice to restore prestige to the saga in cinema.

If this film sees the light of day, it could mark a turning point. Audiences seem tired of episodic trilogies and are waiting for something new. A standalone Star Wars, carried by a star and a competent director, could well be Lucasfilm's best idea in a long time.

Whether all this comes to fruition remains to be seen. With a likely release in 2027, the wait could be long. But if Ryan Gosling really does find himself in an X-wing or facing a lightsaber, then Star Wars in theaters could finally find the force again.
