Samsung could unveil his connected glasses this year, here are the first details

We knew that Samsung was working with Google on a connected headset under Android XR, Project Moohan, which should be launched before the end of the year. But according to the South Korean media ETnews, the manufacturer is also working on a very different form factor, connected glasses, which are reportedly being developed under the code name Project Haean. These glasses could even be ready in 2025 and be presented, or even marketed, at the same time as the headset.

Citing “industry sources”, ETnews explains that this is indeed a product that is worn “in front of the eyes like glasses”, and not a device mounted on the head that covers the eyes. The glasses cannot support virtual reality for obvious design reasons; they will only support augmented reality, with information displayed on the glasses' lenses. Speakers will be integrated into the frame for sound.

Samsung to compete with Meta

We learn that one of the biggest design challenges for Samsung is to successfully offer glasses that fit and are comfortable for a large number of people, despite morphological differences. The glasses are not equipped with any buttons and control would be carried out through gesture sensors. We can also guess that the brand will rely on voice commands to facilitate certain actions.

The glasses should be thin and light. From an external point of view, they should be difficult to recognize as traditional glasses. Google learned the hard way that the glasses could be perceived as a bad eye by people around the wearer, particularly for fear of being filmed. Samsung does not want to make the same mistake and would bet on a discreet design, even if the integration of a photo sensor is planned.

One of the current market leaders is Meta with its Ray-Ban Meta, capable, among other things, of translating speech in real time. For its part, Apple also reportedly has a smart glasses project in the pipeline.
