Microsoft is apparently thinking about making Steam games compatible on Xbox. It's not yet known if this feature is aimed at the current Xbox Series X/S or if these are the first plans for the next Xbox Prime. In any case, an image has leaked at the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2025) which no longer leaves much room for doubt.
Xbox: Steam games soon to be compatible?
This week saw the new edition of GDC, the Game Developers Conference 2025, where A large number of industry professionals gather for highly technical conferences and conventions. It is also an important business meeting.
It was during GDC that Microsoft released an article, published by Leo Olebe, vice president of worldwide partnerships at Xbox. This article aimed to discuss the many possibilities that can open up with Xbox. In it, the XboxEra teams noted An interesting detail in an image (which was later removed from the article).
In this image, several devices could be seen displaying the Xbox Game Library interface. The goal was to promote the Xbox Play Anywhere program and show that it was possible to play the Xbox from anywhere, whether on a laptop, a phone, or even an Asus ROG Ally console.
The interesting little detail is in the background, since we could see the Xbox library interface with several filters such as "Installed", "Game Pass", and "Recently Added". But also a new tab: "Steam".
Everything points to believe that Microsoft is well preparing for the arrival of Steam games on Xbox. The big question is whether this feature is planned for current consoles, on Xbox Series X/S? Or if it concerns the new Xbox Prime? A few days ago, we learned, according to information from Windows Central and journalist Jez Corden, that Microsoft was preparing a next-gen console that would be halfway between a home video game console and a PC. The integration of Steam games on Xbox would therefore make perfect sense.
