Stop procrastinate and look at these 3 series

Do you have a dozen series on your list on Netflix, Disney+, or even Prime Video? Haven't yet taken the time to catch up on the TV production everyone was talking about a year ago? You're probably a TV procrastinator, a viewer who puts off watching a series until tomorrow. A tomorrow that never comes, however, and which turns your profile on streaming apps into a veritable minefield. This March 25th is World Procrastination Day. Rather than foolproof methods to improve efficiency or tools to improve your productivity, what if we took a look at the series that it's high time to watch? Here's our selection of series to catch up on urgently.

The Handmaid’s Tale

This feminist dystopia needs no introduction, a hit in bookstores and picked up by Hulu in 2017. Led by Tim Miller, this adaptation of Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale quickly became one of the most popular series of the moment. The story follows Offred, a young woman held captive by a political-religious sect that has taken control of the United States.

In the near future, pollution and sexually transmitted diseases have severely affected the birth rate. The totalitarian regime has organized society into castes, granted all freedoms to men, and forced women into servitude. Défred is a Handmaid's Tale, a woman entrusted to the (good?) care of a high-ranking couple and whose sole purpose is to give birth to a child. Every month, during a religious ceremony, she is raped by the master of the house.

Why you absolutely have to watch it?

In both form and content, The Handmaid's Tale is a marvel of the small screen. The Hulu production not only benefits from high-flying direction, it also multiplies narrative highlights. As rarely seen on television, this futuristic fresco takes a fatalistic and hopeful look at a hypothetical future where women's freedom to control their bodies is nothing more than a utopia. Chilling at every moment, captivating and above all magnificently embodied, The Handmaid's Tale is one of those series that leaves no one untouched. Season 6 is coming, you have no more excuses and little time to catch up. You can watch or rewatch The Handmaid's Tale on Prime Video.

The Leftovers

In just a few series, Damon Lindelof has built a solid reputation in the television industry. The co-creator of Lost surprised everyone in 2014 with a truly unique series. While less famous than its predecessor, The Leftovers is undoubtedly one of the best series ever produced by HBO (and that's a huge compliment). Its introduction is masterfully executed, a television moment we won't soon forget.

Overnight, 2% of the world's population disappeared from the face of the Earth. These people, from all walks of life, left their families, friends, and loved ones in unimaginable pain. Three years later, life has returned to normal in a small town near New York, but the approaching anniversary of this great disappearance has law enforcement on high alert. Local police chief Kevin Garvey prepares for the worst, as a sect intends to invite itself alongside the participants in these commemorations.

Why you absolutely must watch?

Few series have left their mark on us like The Leftovers. While many series adopt a captivating starting point without ever giving it substance, Damon Lindelof's creation has taken advantage of its subject matter to unfold numerous moving and fascinating plots and take a raw but sincere look at human relationships. The metaphysical series confronts humankind with grief in every possible way and with a rare sensitivity. Special mention for the grand finale, masterful in its simplicity. The Leftovers is available on Max and Canal+ in France.

Over the Garden Wall

Over the Garden Wall, or Over the Garden Wall in the original version, is one of those animated series that audiences dismiss too easily because of its childish appearance. It must be said that it is not easy to convince adults to be tempted by a program stamped with the Cartoon Network. However, it would be a shame to miss this masterpiece, still adored by viewers more than 10 years after its initial broadcast, and rightly so.
This cartoon invites us to discover the curious journey of Wirt and Greg, two young brothers desperately seeking to find their way home after getting lost in a mysterious forest.

Paranormal phenomena and other strange creatures punctuate their journey and give rise to ever more insane situations, which draw their inspiration from tales, fables and other myths sometimes bordering on horror. The artistic choices – both visual and musical – perfectly complement the unique atmosphere of The Strange Forest, for a result as disturbing as it is enchanting that no series will certainly be able to reproduce.

Why is it absolutely essential to watch?

With its 11 episodes, each around ten minutes long, The Strange Forest is a unique mini-series, to be devoured in a single session. Once started, it becomes impossible to resist the charm of this universe inspired by the folklore of the strange. In the original version, the surprising performance of Elijah Wood (yes, Frodo himself) as Wirt is a real treat. Once the show is over, you will certainly want to devour autumnal specialties, or even adopt a frog. Don't ask us why: start now, and you will understand soon enough. The complete collection of The Strange Forest is available for streaming on Max.
