With over $1.3 billion in revenue, the Super Mario Bros. movie gave Nintendo wings. While a sequel was quickly ordered, the Japanese company announced its intention to strengthen its presence in the entertainment market. Other adaptations for both small and large screens are planned, notably with the help of Nintendo Pictures, its new subsidiary dedicated to the creation of visual content. Never short of surprises, the publisher has finally decided to... fulfill a long-time dream of many fans: to make a Zelda movie.
A date for the Zelda movie
The Illumination studio (Despicable Me) was initially expected to bring Hyrule to life with the dexterity they demonstrated for Super Mario Bros., but Nintendo has once again bucked all expectations. Zelda will therefore go live-action with Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy, The Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom) as director. It is up to It's been a long time since we last heard the details, but Nintendo has finally decided to reveal its release date. The Legend of Zelda movie will be released in theaters on March 26, 2027, as revealed on Nintendo Today, the publisher's new app. It seems a long time away, but Big N had previously said it would arrive "by the end of the decade." Good news, you won't have to wait as long as some thought.
For more information, however, you'll have to be patient. Wes Ballse, however, remains confident. In recent interviews, the director has explained that he wanted to draw inspiration from Miyazaki's works for the artistic direction of the Zelda film. The adaptation will therefore have a touch of My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle, but with a more "serious and realistic" tone. Shigeru Miyamoto, the absolute legend of Nintendo, will directly supervise this adaptation and will keep a close eye on things to ensure that this Zelda film is the height of expectations and a phenomenon like the film Super Mario Bros.
