The name of the actor – seen since in the series Hawaii Five-0 – is cited for the adaptation of the dark fantasy manga Claymore, written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi. Masi Oka will serve as executive producer on the project alongside Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Rodney Ferrell, on behalf of the production company Propagate Content, which will be associated with CBS Studios, all in partnership with the famous Japanese publishing house Shueisha. The search for a screenwriter has already begun.

He has worked on the live-action Death Note film for Netflix

This isn't the first time Masi Oka has seen his name associated with a live-action anime project. He was already a co-producer on the Netflix film adaptation of the manga Death Note in 2017, which isn't a good memory for fans of this work, nor necessarily reassuring news for fans of Claymore.. The actor, through his involvement in the series Hawaii Five-0 – he plays forensic pathologist Max Bergmanhas a good relationship with CBS Studios, and Propagate Content has other joint projects planned with the company, which facilitated exchanges between the different entities on this project.

The idea behind this live-action adaptation is to preserve the pace, action, and moral dilemmas highlighted by the original manga, which have already been developed into an anime on Crunchyroll. But what exactly is Claymore about? Norihiro Yagi's work plunges us into a dark medieval world in which humans have been prey to shapeshifting predators, the Yoma, for many years. Humanity places all its hopes for salvation in the Claymores, half-human, half-demon warriors – considered witches by the population – who fight these famous Yoma. They are distinguished by their appearance, notably their eyes, which are silver, and their gigantic swords placed on their backs, which earned them the name Claymores.
