Google often changes its applications. Most of the time, it's for a good cause, whether it's adding a feature or a design overhaul. And sometimes, the Mountain View firm makes a change that no one asked for, much to the dismay of users who don't hesitate to express their dissatisfaction. In the vast majority of cases, this unfortunately serves no purpose. Let's remember that since Android 12 in 2021, many have been waiting for the return of certain shortcuts that were removed for no reason.

For once, Google not only heard the criticism, but acted accordingly in just about 3 months. At the center of attention, the disappearance of a very practical option from Google Photos in November 2024: the automatic sharing of photos and images from third-party applications with a contact. Since then, only the sharing of photos from the application was possible, until the developers backtracked.

Google listens to users and brings back a disappeared option on Google Photos

The company justified itself by saying that it wanted to prevent a user from being overwhelmed by the content shared. It should be remembered that absolutely everything is concerned, from screenshots to files downloaded to your smartphone, including of course photos. But rather than forcing it one way or the other, Google is finally giving us a choice. You can now define whether or not third-party apps should be part of the sharing. Here's how:

  1. Open Google Photos on your Android smartphone.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial at the top right. right.
  3. Go to Photos app settings then Sharing.
  4. Tap Share with a contact.
  5. Tap Content from other Android apps excluded.
  6. Activate Include content from other Android apps and validate with the Next button.
  7. Finish the sharing configuration by Choose a start date and Select photos to share.
