Windows 11: Microsoft is testing a new system to organize the Start menu

Rearranging pinned icons in the Windows 11 Start menu could soon be easier. Microsoft is currently working on integrating new options to do this.

A better organized Start menu coming soon

It was while exploring builds 26120.3576 and 22635.5090 recently deployed by Microsoft to Insiders that leaker PhantomofEarth made an interesting discovery about the Start menu. Microsoft is indeed testing a new system for moving applications pinned to the Start menu and creating new folders. These new options, accessible from the right-click context menu, allow you to "move left" or "move right" application icons from the Start menu, in addition to being able to do it using the mouse (or your finger, on a touch screen).

Another new feature is that creating folders could soon be much simpler. Because if until Now you had to superimpose the icon of one application on another to create a folder, the option could soon be available directly from the right click.

These new features, still under testing and development, were not mentioned by Microsoft in the list of changes made in these new builds. However, they are already available if you are using one of the two builds of Windows 11 concerned. However, if these new options do not appear on your machine (this was the case on our machine for the option to create folders), it is still possible to force their activation using the dedicated utility ViVeTool.

You will then need to enter the command vivetool /enable /id:50472543 to enable the movement of icons to the left or right, and vivetool /enable /id:50472600 to display the option to create a folder or move an application to an existing folder.
