Xiaomi: these two Redmi smartphones sold in France have a load problem

If you have a Redmi Note 13 5G or a Redmi Note 12S, you may have noticed a charging issue. These two entry-level smartphones, launched in 2024 and 2023 respectively, are compatible with the manufacturer's 33W fast charging. Recently, users have been reporting charging speed issues.

The Redmi Note 13 5G and Redmi Note 12S charge very slowly, far from the manufacturer's promises. For the Note 13 5G, it is even impossible to charge the battery to 100%. This frustrating situation affects several versions of the phones, including the global variants. Known for the value for money of its smartphones, Xiaomi is one of the main players in the market. It is among the top 3 manufacturers in France, thanks in particular to the success of its Redmi Note range.

Don't panic, the problem is software-related

Xiaomi has acknowledged the existence of a bug and is reassuring, explaining that it is a software-related issue. Indeed, the charging difficulties have been observed on devices running the following HyperOS 2.0 versions:

  • Redmi Note 12S: OS2.0.2.0.VHZMIXM
  • Redmi Note 13 5G: OS2.0.2.0.VNQMIXM (Global), OS2.0.1.0.VNQIDXM (Indonesia), and OS2.0.1.0.VNQTWXM (Taiwan)

If your version matches, Xiaomi plans to roll out a fix in an upcoming OTA update. You are advised to stay tuned for update notifications. update or check regularly via the device settings.

While waiting for the patch to be rolled out, Redmi Note 12S and Redmi Note 13 5G owners can try the following temporary solutions:

  • Use the original charger and cable
  • Clean the charging port gently
  • Disable battery optimization for important apps
  • Avoid using the device while charging
  • Try charging the device when it is turned off
