Adobe is updating Premier Pro with new AI-powered features to help creators speed up video editing, media discovery, and distribution. All of these new features are coming out of beta with version 25.2 of the popular video editing software and are available to all users.
Generative Extend: Premier Pro's new flagship feature?
At the heart of this update is Generative Extend. Powered by Adobe’s Firefly generative AI video model, this feature allows editors to intelligently extend the duration of their video and audio clips. If a shot is too short for a smooth transition or to perfectly fit the pace of the edit, Generative Stretch can add additional frames (up to two seconds according to some reports, though the exact duration may vary) and extend ambient audio (potentially up to ten seconds for audio alone).
This feature now supports quality 4K and vertical video formats, meeting the needs of modern productions and social media creation. Adobe specifies that the Generative Extension will be free for a limited time, before operating via a Firefly generative credit system, the cost of which will depend in particular on the resolution and video format. Content Credentials will be attached directly to the files to ensure transparency around AI-generated content.
With Media Intelligence, Premiere Pro aims to save editors time
The other new feature A major feature is Media Intelligence, a feature directly integrated via a new AI-powered search panel. It aims to transform the way editors interact with their content by automatically analyzing and recognizing the content of video clips. Rather than manually searching for specific sequences in your video library, Media Intelligence can recognize objects, locations, camera angles, actions, or even metadata (shooting date, camera type, etc.). This should allow editors to save time by finding specific shots at using simple text descriptions, such as "close-ups of hands working in a kitchen."
Adobe also announces that automatic subtitle translation is evolving to support 27 different languages directly in Premiere Pro. At the same time, color management is simplified thanks to Premiere Color Management, which automatically converts raw (log) files from most cameras into standard SDR or HDR color spaces upon import, ensuring faithful and vibrant colors without the need for complex manipulations (LUTs).
New for After Effects and Frame.io
These advancements are accompanied by performance improvements on Apple devices and Windows. Adobe is also updating After Effects is updated with improved 3D tools, HDR monitoring, and improved preview playback, while Frame.io gets expanded storage and new review and transcription tools. Finally, Frame.io receives updates with new and expanded text document review tools, transcription generation (in beta), watermarking, and group access (in beta).
