The first three episodes of season 2 of Andor have just been released on Disney+. As usual, Tony Gilroy's series is a pure success. Faced with these first three masterful chapters, we wanted to look back at the 20 best easter eggs.
SPOILER ALERT!
20) The Rakata Invasion
Andor confirmed that the invasion of Rakata took place 25,000 years before the series, around the same time as the creation of the Jedi Order. Before Andor, the Star Wars canon had not yet officially revealed this timeline, although Star Wars Legends references it.
19) Yavin 4
The planet Yavin 4 is the iconic base of the Rebel Alliance in the original trilogy. In the first two episodes, Cassian Andor travels to Yavin 4 to meet a group of rebels. Rebels who are ultimately completely out of touch and simply looking for a way to leave. It's at the end of episode 2, when Cassian flies off aboard his TIE, that we discover that he had landed on Yavin 4.
18) The wedding scene
At the end of episode 3, Mon Mothma launches into a wild dance during her daughter's wedding. The song in question, Niamos, is a remix of a song already featured in season 1 of Andor. It is also the name of a planet.
17) TIE Prototype Avenger
In the first episode of season 2 of Andor, Cassian steals a TIE Avenger. It is the first model of this type to be featured in the Star Wars canon. In the Legends universe, this is the craft piloted by Grand Admiral Thrawn.
16) The Stardust Badge
During Director Krennic's meeting, the most observant will have noticed the presence of a badge referring to the Stardust project. Stardust is the code name for the Death Star project. It's a nod that reveals Krennic's true intentions. A sequence that especially marks the return of the immense Ben Mendelsohn in the role of the Star Wars villain.
15) A reference to Palpatine?
In episode 1 of this season 2 of Andor, Krennic refers to the Death Star by saying that it would allow "access to stable and unlimited power". A line that refers to that of Palpatine in Star Wars III when he tells Anakin that the dark side brings "power unlimited."
14)Star Wars: Battlefront II
A fun little easter egg, the sound of certain TIE keys are the same sounds as the loading screen of Battlefront II.
13) Imperial News Network
Andor often cites Imperial News Network as a source of information. Initially, it was thought that this news network was simply a funny little joke. Except that, in fact, Imperial News Network has already been mentioned several times in the past, notably in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, written in 2008 by Pablo Hidalgo and Stephen J. Sansweet. Imperial News Network is described as a civilian branch of the Imperial Services Media Division, primarily used to promote Imperial propaganda.
12) Range Troopers
The Range Troopers, which we have already seen in the past in Solo: A Star Wars Story, appear in Episode 1 of Season 2 of Andor.
11) The Sienar Facility
At the beginning of episode 1 of this season 2, Cassian infiltrated an Imperial installation. The facility in question is called Sienar. A familiar name since a Sienar Advanced Project Lab was present on Lothal, the planet of Ezra Bridger in Star Wars: Rebels.
10) Kafrene
In episode 1 of this season 2, Cassian uses the password Kafrene. This is a direct easter egg for Rogue One. Indeed, it is on Kafrene that the story of Cassian Andor begins in Rogue One.
9) Indiana Jones
There were already easter eggs in reference to the Indiana Jones saga in the first season of Andor. Season 2 continues this tradition since we can see the Holy Grail of Indiana Jones 3 in the Luthen Gallery.
8) The sound of the alarms
There is an aesthetic continuity between Rogue One and Andor. Tony Gilroy goes even further by using the same Imperial alarms between the Gareth Edwards film and the Disney+ series.
7) Gozanti cruiser
The Imperial cruiser on Mina-Rau is a modified version of the digital model Gozanti cruiser created for The Mandalorian Season 2 Chapter 11: The Heiress.
6) Ministry of Enlightenment
The Empire's Ministry of Enlightenment is a direct reference to Nazi Germany. Indeed, the Nazis had a ministry they called Ministry of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment.
5) Maarva Andor
At Bix, you can see a portrait of Maarva Andor hanging on the wall.
4) Leida's wedding dress Mothma
Michael Wilkinson, the head of the costume team for Andor season 2, took six months to make Leida's wedding dress Mothma. It consists of about ten patterned pieces sewn together, superb beads and hand-finished details.
3) An AT-ST toy
In the third episode, the most observant will have noticed a little girl playing with a toy representing an AT-ST. A famous war machine of the Empire introduced in the original trilogy, particularly in Star Wars VI.
2) Moff Tarkin
The famous Moff Tarkin, played by the great Peter Cushing in the original trilogy, is quoted by Krennic.
1) Erskin Semaj
In Episode 3, when Luthen is talking to a young man, they are interrupted by a drunken man who falls in front of them. This young boy is actually Erskin Semaj, an assistant of Mon Mothma, first introduced in Star Wars: Rebels.
