Borderlands 4 is one of the most anticipated games of the second half of 2025. While it was scheduled for September 23, its studio announced that it would finally bring forward its release date. Enough to make way for the other big title from publisher Take Two, namely GTA 6?
Adventurers of Pandora and elsewhere, you will soon be able to return to service! Borderlands 4, the new installment of Gearbox's shooter, has seen its release date moved up today.
This was announced by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchord in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). While his game was originally scheduled for release on September 23rd, it is now scheduled for release on September 12th.We know about delays, but progress is rarer. Good news, then!
Borderlands 4 moved up to make way for a certain GTA 6?
Pitchford doesn't really give any specific reasons for this decision:
"I know we promised Borderlands 4 would be out at the end of September, and the team has been working really hard to make that happen. And it's going great. We're actually living the dream story, the game is great, the team is working hard, and the release date has been changed. We've moved it up. The release date is now set for September 12th.
In addition to this change, Sony announced that a State of Play will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, tomorrow, at 11 p.m. (French time). The game will be presented at length. Note that it will not be a PS5 exclusive, since it will also be released on PC, Xbox, and Switch 2.

While this date change logically delights fans, it piques the curiosity of other players. It is indeed strange to see one of the big games from publisher Take Two bring forward its release. This is enough to draw all eyes to another highly anticipated title from the publisher, a certain GTA 6. As a reminder, the game from the Rockstar studio still does not have a specific release date, being planned for a vague "2025". Could bringing forward Borderlands 4 be a precautionary measure to make room for this behemoth that will ravage everything in its path? Possible, but we are in the realm of conjecture here.
