Bouygues Télécom subscribers? The operator reserves a unpleasant surprise for all its customers

The trend is towards increasing termination fees among the main French internet service providers. Bouygues Telecom is the latest example to revise its prices upwards, and it's safe to say that the operator doesn't mince its words, as our colleagues at Frandroid indicate. Indeed, it is increasing these fees from 59 euros to 69 euros for all its subscribers.

With this increase, Bouygues Telecom becomes the most expensive operator on the market in terms of termination fees. For comparison, here are the current fees for other operators:

  • Orange: 50 euros
  • SFR and Free: 59 euros (recent increase for both operators, previously 49 euros)

At the same time, we learned that Bouygues Telecom has also reduced the maximum reimbursement amount for termination fees from a previous operator, going from 100 euros to just 50 euros. The operator has also set the migration fee to a lower-priced internet offer at 49 euros.

What can customers do?

It is important to know that these fees are generally reimbursed by the new operator in the event of a change. Refund offers of up to 100 euros exist at SFR or Free while Orange is more generous by reimbursing up to 150 euros.

For Bouygues Telecom customers wishing to avoid these new fees, two options are possible:

  • Turn to a competitor that offers reimbursement of termination fees. You will nevertheless have to advance the 69 euros fee requested by Bouygues Telecom.
  • Rely on article L224-33 of the Consumer Code which allows you to cancel without fees following a contractual modification, within 4 months of notification. Bouygues Telecom subscribers have until July 31, 2025 to cancel their subscription free of charge.

This trend of increasing termination fees seems to be becoming widespread among French operators, with Free having initiated the movement in February, followed by SFR at the beginning of the month, and now Bouygues Telecom. These successive increases confirm a desire operators to retain their subscribers, while the battle rages on other elements such as speeds, the presence of Wi-Fi 7 or streaming services.
