Call of Duty: Cult Games Resurface, Surprise Coming Soon?

It seems that Activision, and by extension Microsoft, are soon preparing the return of two monuments from the FPS Call of Duty franchise. We had already heard several rumors about this, but it has now been confirmed more officially via the Australian classification body.

After Black Ops 6 was released last November, we are apparently expecting two more new Call of Duty games for 2026 and 2027. Until then, Activision clearly does not intend to let its very lucrative franchise sleep. In addition to the additions of seasonal content for BO6 and the Battle Royale Warzone (some of which are used by AI, which caused a heated controversy), things are getting closer to the return of old cult titles, in the form of Modern Warfare 2 and 3.

As a reminder, we had heard via a leak from eXtas1s about an upcoming return of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Game Pass. Two months later, this is taking a more official form thanks to the Australian classification body. On this one, we can now consult two new pages dedicated precisely to Modern Warfare 2, but also its direct sequel. Each receives an MA 15+ classification, due to the presence of strong violence and online interactions.

On the page dedicated to Modern Warfare 2, we can see the mention « PS5 Cross-Gen Edition ». Regarding Modern Warfare 3, we can this time simply read « Cross-Gen Edition ». In any case, we can expect a revisited form of these two cult installments of the Call of Duty franchise, potentially in a « Classic, but adapted to the latest generation consoles. This would in any case fit with the leaks indicating that these would soon return to the Xbox Game Pass. Now it remains to be seen We'll have to wait for an official announcement from Activision to find out for sure.
